i don't care if i forgot stuff anymore. i don't care that have the right shoes or the right sweaters or the right books. i'm blissfully stress free right now, only 7 and a half short hours from take off.
but come 445 am, when we leave the house, i'm gonna be FCUKING FREAKING OUT.

mini novels
i'm gonna try to keep these entries short for you guys. i have a nasty habit of rambling on, especially when i don't know how to end things, so i think i'll break this promise as soon as i get over there. ah, such is life, eh?
i wanted to tell you also what this blog is--and what it's not.
it's mostly like my diary, except open for you to look at. which is a really big step for me for a couple reasons.
1. if you've talked to me even once, you know i'm somewhat of a grammar whore. but in my diary, i don't care quite as much. i'm able to turn off editor nicki. but it makes me self conscious that you'll see my mistakes and mishaps and it makes me think that you'll judge me differently, for some reason. yeah, my grammar matters to me that much.
2. you know me as hard-shelled, "no, i'm okay, really" nicki. nothing affects me and i can get through pretty much anything without breaking down. as it turns out, this is false. i break down, but only in the privacy of my own thoughts. but i also get over things REALLY quickly. and i also only tend to write when i'm really emotional (though this blog will turn out differently than that, because it's also gonna be my place to jot down everything i do over in that crazy continent), so diary me probably comes off more emotional than real me.
3. come on...i'm letting you in on my diary! how could this not be a big step?

stupid weak dollar
so my goal was to save $3,000 before i left for france. that gives me approximately 2.194,75 euro (or however they use their decimals and periods). that leaves me with 548,69 euro to spend per month.
one part of me is like YESSS you have so much money to spend! buy everything you want to!
but the other, larger part of me wants to travel a LOT. traveling costs bunches of euros...much more than i have.
i guess i'll be in debt to my parents for a LONG time.

holy crapholes (repetition!) i'm leaving for paris THIS MONTH. yah, so what if it isn't until the absolute last day. whatev.

i'm going to paris in 63 days.
well, i won't be there for 64, but i get on the flight at sfo in 63. OMG.
yesterday i was reading "sixty million frenchmen can't be wrong." the chapter on eloquence made me SO excited to get over there (seriously, nicki, learn a synonym for "excited"...it's in like every post). they love their language and prize people who know how to artfully put sentences together and make a speech sound like a piece of art. when someone says he is a writer, the french go "ooo impressive." in america, we all go "god, how do you make money? you must be poor. need a dollar?"i hope to meet some of the most amazing writers over there. i'm gonna try to improve my french solely because i want to read their works the way the french read them.
oh, maybe i should actually work on that then.

what should be the first post
this is what that last post should have been--the low down on what the heck this blog is all about.
i'm studying abroad in paris in the fall. from august 31st to december 23rd, i'll be at the american university of paris, right there in the heart of the city. i'll be living with a french "family" (aka someone brave enough to rent out a room to a rowdy UC kid) and paying far too much rent. scratch that, my parents are paying (i love you, mom and dad!)
it's gonna be fun. no, i need a better adjective than that. my writer brain can come up with something better, but right now it's too clogged with worries about my visa stuff coming together, about how much money i'm (not) gonna have, about how i'm gonna miss everything here...about how i'm gonna miss some people so damn much.
